How Do I Submit A Book To Amazon? (Submitting A Paperback Book)
Today we want to walk you through submitting your paperback book to amazon. It is not a hard process but there are lots of steps. The good news is that if you know how to fill out a form you will do great!
To get started you will need four things:
- 1. A kdp.amazon.com account
- 2. Your Book Cover
- 3. The Book Interior
- 4. Keywords
Note: This process is a little different for kindle editions and we will cover that in another post.
For this article we will have created a low content paperback book to use as a real example.
First you will need to create an account at kdp.amazon.com. If you already have a sign in details created for Amazon it is as easy as verifying your account.

Once you are signed in click on “Paperback”.

The next screen is really long and it took 4 pics to get in all the shots required. We want to share with you what it looks like BEFORE we get in to the explanations.

Language
As shown in the first screen you will want to pick the language that the book is written in. For us, that would be English.
Book Title And Subtitle
Then add the book title and the subtitle. The book title must be EXACTLY what is written on the cover of your book.
The subtitle is a quick description of your book.

Series
Since this is your first book you can skip the “Series” step as you have not yet created a series.
Edition
You may also skip the “Edition” section as we are creating your first book now.
Author
Type in the Author name. For the book we are creating, we are using a pen name for our other website (SweetGiftLists). We don’t need a first or middle name we just need to use the last name section.

Contributors
There are no other contributors so we can skip this step.
Description
Here is where we start to get in to the big details of the book. Write your description of the product.
You do not need to include dimensions as this will be automatically be assigned based on the measurements you list.

Publishing Rights

Keywords
Hope you have your keywords ready. Utilize all that space and go to town. This is your opportunity to get targeted traffic by choosing the right keywords for your book/niche.

Categories
Be picky and careful here as you are only allowed to pick 2 main categories. Only choose the large print option if you have indeed used large print. Checking this will not change the size of the font.

Adult Content
This is a simple “Yes” or “No” question. In our case the answer is “No”.

When you are finished and the form is complete, click on “Save and Continue”.

Print ISBN

As it states all books are required to have a unique ISBN
What is an ISBN? We will let Amazon Explain
“An ISBN, or International Standard Book Number, is a unique 10-digit number assigned to every published book. An ISBN identifies a title’s binding, edition, and publisher. An EAN, or European Article Number, is a 13-digit number assigned to every book to provide a unique identifier for international distributors. The 10-digit ISBN is converted to a 13-digit EAN by adding a 978 prefix and changing the last digit. To publish a book, you can use either a free KDP ISBN or use your own valid ISBN (purchased directly from your ISBN agency). Learn more about ISBNs.”
Publication Date
Again, since this is your first book, skip this step.
Print Options

“Black and white interior with white paper” is preselected by default. It is also the cheapest option. Choose the option that works for your book.
Scroll down slightly and pick the book size. We are creating a book in almost the largest size at 8.5”inch x 11”inch.

The following screen shows all the size options available.

Manuscript
Time to upload the book interior in PDF format. This could be a manuscript or low content pages like coloring pages, puzzle pages, or in our case, a daily planner. This will take a few mins. Remember you are uploading hundreds of pages.

Book Cover
Now you upload your cover in PDF format. This can take a couple of mins as well.

Book Preview
The final step on this page is to view your book by clicking “Launch Previewer. This can take up to 10 mins. Your book will now go through a set of digital checks to as the book is being put together. When the previewer does finish loading it will tell you if everything looks good and lines up or if there are changes to be made.

Book Summary
Once you approve the book, a new section will appear at the bottom of the page.
It is the summary of the book details and the printing cost.

If everything looks accurate click on “Save and Continue” or “Back to Details” if something needs to be changed.
